Frankenmeat Awareness
While this may sound like a Halloween trick, it’s not the Food and Drug Administration is proposing that food from genetically modified animals be sold for human consumption, and it does not have be labeled as genetically engineered.
I want to know what I’m buying in the grocery store, which is why I just signed an online petition to the FDA calling for labeling of all food from genetically engineered animals. Would you take a moment to sign the petition also?
Genetically engineered milk and meat may soon become a reality. Goats have been engineered with spider genes to produce spider silk in their milk. And pigs carry mouse and bacterial DNA to improve the way they metabolize their feed. These animals are obviously different than their counterparts that have not had their genes altered. Not only should the milk and meat from these animals be studied to determine if they are safe, they should be labeled so we know exactly what we are buying.
Please sign the petition and urge the FDA to reconsider this proposal. And then forward this email to friends and family so they can sign, too. The more Americans heard from, the better chance we have at requiring labeling of genetically engineered food. Just go to www.NotInMyFood.org to sign the petition. Thank you!
