Happy with Enough

First, a reflection on things…

What I do not have:

Happy with Enough
What I do have:

  • shelter
  • warmth
  • sustenance
  • love
  • joy
  • health
  • comfort
  • time
  • gratitude
  • peace
  • respect
  • enough

For years, I tried a lot of things, and accumulated a lot of stuff. The details aren’t important, because over the years, all the things and stuff ended up forgettable and forgotten. The stuff I did or acquired did not contribute to the most memorable moments of my life to this point and, for the most part, proved to be a waste of money, time or effort.

Some of this realization is, over time, a natural part of maturity and understanding what is most important in life. However, this ever-evolving process has, for me, been quite an enjoyable ride as well. Taking time to step back and appreciate the whole process for what it is – personal growth – and acknowledging each inspirational moment for the unique, experience it enhances, toward that of knowledge, strength, confidence and abundance of life. I am still learning and growing and happily evolving toward greater peace and passion than I ever realized possible.

It brings me joy to know that I have what I need within me, around me, in my life – right now, in the moment. It’s not the things or stuff that gets me there. I have enough, because I have what I need to live life completely, gratefully, happy.

So, it took me some years to get to this place, but I’m here now, and I wish that everyone have the wonderful opportunity to live here, in happiness too, sooner than later.

Starting a Business

Thanks for the guest post by Jonathan Curtis

My husband and I both have always wanted to start our own business. We do not really know what type of business we want to start yet. We just know that we want to own a business that we are passionate about, and so that we can make money doing something we love. We would also like the flexibility that comes with being your own boss. We will be able to make our own schedules and take vacation whenever we wanted to. We have thought about everything from fitness to a bakery, and child care to auto shops. The problem is we can’t agree on a business that we feel equally passionate about. My husband was a business major, so he knows a lot about what we need to do to start a business. I think we both agree that we should start out small and then if it does well, we can open a larger business. We live near the downtown area, and we would like to open something close to here because we would like it to be convenient for us too. If our dream business does well, we can always open more in other locations. We just need to get serious about this and make a decision about what we want to do. Once we do finally decide, it should definitely be fun.

5 Shortcuts to Finding Your Passion

Post written by Leo Babauta.

“Follow your passion.” It sounds so easy. So why do so many people struggle to find the career they’re excited to wake up to every morning?

Today, I held a free webinar with Jennifer Gresham, founder of the No Regrets Career Academy, called, “5 Shortcuts to Finding Your Passion.”

Jen took a thoughtful look at how to “follow your passion” and find your “fire in the belly” with confidence, and shared:

  • How to tell if your passion is career material or just a hobby
  • Anti-passions (and why you can’t ignore them)
  • Why passion isn’t everything
  • The #1 mistake people make when choosing a passion
  • Advice for the extremely passionate (do you have to choose?)

Jen and I also answered a ton of questions about finding your passion.

Finding your Passion, steps 2 and 3

Last time, I posted a step 1 in finding your passion. Taking this further now, into step 2 & 3, you’ll need to go deeper for some inspiration. In finding your passion, it’s important to look within yourself and focus on what it is you truly enjoy doing. What excites you? It may be something at work.. a part of your job that gets you excited perhaps. It could be something you do outside of work like a hobby, a side job, something you do as a volunteer or a parent or a spouse or a friend. It could be something you haven’t done in awhile. Again, think about this for 30 minutes, or 15 at the least. If you don’t, you’re probably shortchanging yourself. Think about this as your step 2 and record your findings.

For step 3 in finding your passion, think about something you’ve secretly dreamed of. You might have some ridiculous dream job you’ve always wanted to do. Have you ever had a dream of being a novelist, an artist, a designer, an architect, a doctor, an entrepreneur, a programmer. Maybe some fear or self-doubt has held you back and led you to dismiss this idea. List your dream ideas, no matter how unrealistic.

Finding your Passion, step 1

Finding-your-passion-step-1I think it’s important to do what you love.. or at least, love what you do. I know this is sometimes easier said that done. I am one of the lucky ones as I am doing what I love to do. Are you? You’ve heard the saying.. “Life is short”. Well it’s also a lot more fulfilling when you are living it with passion.

So, how do you go about finding your passion? Sometimes a skill or talent will push themselves forward at a young age.. how lucky is that, right? Sometimes a little more personal investigating is in order. Think about it.. unless you’re reading this while you’re still really young, you most likely have some skills or talents and shown some kind of aptitude. Are you a good speaker, writer, sketcher, organizer, builder, planner, teacher, friend? Maybe you have you been great at unique ideas, connecting people, gardening, selling?

Truly take your time and give it some thought. Think back, maybe way back to childhood even, to hobbies, to first jobs, projects you enjoyed. Within this personal investigation could be your passion.. or passions even. You’re on your way!
